Dating from the 1770s, this is a traditional town hotel with Georgian frontage and a large coaching archway entrance. The public bar is in "baronial" style with impressive timber ceiling structure and a fine bar-back with central clock. There is also a carved fireplace with large mirror over. Up a steep slope at the back is a boules court and small elevated garden.
The Firkin in the Lion is a separate micropub within the Red Lion. According to the board outside it is open 4-10 Mon-Fri, 12-10 Sat &12-3 Sun. It may close early midweek if not busy.
The pub is currently up for sale due to forthcoming retirement.
